It does seem a bit out-of-place in how serious everyone else is, but I'm enjoying it.

On Alfred, given he's suppose to be an ex-British Marine rather than the more refined figure we're used to, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

However, almost everyone else (McKenzie as Gordon, Logue as Bullock, and especially Taylor as Cobblepot/Penguin) are really doing so well they're worth the price of admission so to speak.

Yeah, the 'Call me Cat' thing was a bit silly, but I went along w/it. I'm hoping it builds itself up, and while this wasn't my favorite episode either, we're only in the beginning. Here's hoping... I agree about Nygma only making short appearances. He is one of the more interesting characters in Batman's rogue's gallery, and Smith seems to fit the role perfectly.

Calling Selina "Cat" seemed a bit cheap, but I suppose the writers had to make the fact that she will become Catwoman blatantly obvious even for the extreme casual audience.

Pertwee's Alfred does not seem to fit the role thus far. I guess they are going in a different direction, but it does not seem to fit for me. He seems far too similar to his role in Elementary.

The guy who plays Gordon (can't remember his name) is quite good though. And so is Bullock.

Smith as Fish Mooney continues to be my biggest problem. She literally made me laugh by how camp she went with her scenes. There is nothing wrong with camp, but it clashed with the more serious tone the series is trying to set. She seems as though her performance would fit better in a Joel Schumacher Batman movie, or Adam West's era.

Overall, Gotham is fine so far. It is definitely worth watching, but it does not quite have the defining factor that sets it above the rest, at least not yet. I have still yet to watch the most recent episode though.

-JamesJames the Reviewerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00165238905288033483noreply@blogger.com
